Top 5 Benefits of Incorporating Humor into Your Programs

There are many benefits of incorporating humor into your meeting or event. Today we are going to give you our Top 5.

1: Humor engages audiences and helps with recall. A client shared  that her attendees remembered the content of her conference more than in previous years, because of the level of engagement and entertainment we brought to the program.

2: Humor makes for great transitions. We recently emceed a hybrid conference that included a physical activation. We had both live and virtual attendees doing “The Techie Stretch” together, with moves like, “The Tinder Swipe”, and the highly aerobic “Charge Your Laptop!”

3: Humor creates rapport and puts people at ease. They say people who laugh together, bond together and stay together. There really is nothing like sharing a laugh and getting to know others through a common ground, based in humor.

4: Humor triggers new connections in the brain. The right and left hemispheres sync up in new ways when we start to ‘think laterally’ — free associating into tangential topics, versus taking one line of thinking and not deviating from that topic.

5: Humor is a great equalizer that makes speakers and managers more relatable to the audience. CEOs love humorous anecdotes that ‘humanize’ them and make them more accessible. Herb Kelleher, a billionaire and CEO of Southwest Airlines, would show up at 2 AM to greet employee baggage handlers wearing a pink boa and joke around with them.
